A Brief History
Trevor Phillips has been a barber for over 58 years, training as a barber at Newbury’s Christchurch in 1962.
Trevor went on to run a barbershop within Fredrik & Brian’s hairdressing in Ringwood This is where he met Mary who was also a hairdresser, fell in love and soon married.
In 1966 with a loan from his parents of £14, Trevor opened his own business in West Moors this became a great success.
Time To Move
After a few years with fashions changing and becoming very busy with all the modern hair styles, Trevor decided it was time move on to larger premises.
In August 1986 opened Trevor Phillips Barber Shop in Ferndown.
Trevor trained Mary converting her from a ladies hairdresser to a barber, a first for its time. Trevor and Mary created a different blend of barbering. Trevor’s barbering with a touch of Mary’s ladies hairdressing, built the business we have today.
Trevor went on to train barbers in the art of precision hairdressing, most went on to become successful salon owners. The salon became so busy that in 1990 it needed a large extension allowing the salon to go from 6 barbers to 10.
The Family Takeover
In 2001 they sold the shop to their son Paul who they trained in 1992, now he is leading a very successful team taking the salon to the strength it is today.
Over the 58 years, Trevor Phillips Barbers has seen every hairstyle imaginable from short back and sides and flat tops, to under cuts, curtain cuts, french crops and skin fades.
Most importantly our business has looked after our young customers offering:
- First haircut certificates
- First cut of hair put in a bag for memory box.
- Toys to play with
- Lolly pops
- Badges
- And the first to offer colour gel
We are still cutting grandchildren and great grandchildren of our clients past.
